Top discounts NHS staff don’t actually know about

There are quite a few discounts out there which NHS Staff can use without showing a specialist card, being a member of a secret club or knowing a secret handshake – these are discounts where all you need to do is rock up and show your NHS ID card when paying the bill and hey presto – you’ll get money off.

I’ve done some digging and found quite a few handy discounts that as members of the NHS, you can and should really take advantage of – you’re entitled to them.

Nandos 20% off

There’s no getting away from it, Nandos are one of the most popular high street restaurant chains in the UK at this moment. If you are a fan of ‘Portuguese style’ chicken cooked with that added extra spice then Nandos certainly ticks all the boxes – its also a hit with the kids for birthdays and special occasions.

I’d heard a few rumours across various sites regarding the famous Nandos discount for NHS staff and I admit, after sampling a few meals out realised that yes, NHS staff can indeed pick up 20% discount off their meals simply by showing their ID card on receipt of the bill.

There are a few stipulations though – the main one being the 20% discount is applied to the card holders order only, up to an order value of £20 and the total amount you can claim at any one time is £4.

Yes thats correct – only £4 – so don’t go in expecting a juicy £20 off your £100 worth of chicken wings! – You’ll be left disappointed as well as feeling that you probably should look for an NHS discount at your local gym.

Frankie and Benny’s 20% Off

Frankie and Benny’s is another well known restaurant found on many a high street in the UK. If you like your food and drink with a rock and roll edge then this Italian is certainly the place for you.

Its a great place for birthday parties or special occasions and there’s little doubt its extremely popular with families so take advantage of this discount.

The good news is NHS staff who show their ID card can pick up a whopping 20% off orders. Once again however, there are certain stipulations.

You can get your discount only when two main meals are ordered off the main menu and the discount applies to food part of your order only – So don’t go ordering that second bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape expecting 20% off your bottle.

Other than that though, a great little discount from Frankie and Benny’s.

Leon – 15% off

If plates of chicken or pizza is not really your bag then a meal at a Leon restaurant may tickle your fancy.

They are mainly a London based chain of restaurants offering healthy, vegan or gluten free snacks for people on the go – ideal for NHS staff looking to grab a quick lunch or breakfast.

There’s an additional feel good factor to eating their healthy food too – simply show you NHS ID card upon ordering and you’ll get 15% discount off your meal.

Iceland – 10% off (Offer only applies during run up to Christmas)

Plenty of people have mentioned this one and I for one think its a cracker for the Festive period.

Well known frozen food outlet Iceland has a habit of offering NHS staff a 10% discount around Christmas time which is certainly something to smile about when you have to stock up on all that Christmas food for the family.

The period of the offer varies but for the last few years Iceland have launched their ‘thankyou’ to emergency services staff a few weeks before Christmas Day. Last year the offer ended 16th December.

Once again all you need to do is simply present you  NHS staff ID and the discount will be applied.

Cosmo Restaurants – 10% off

If you’re anything like me then you like a little bit of spice in your life! Cosmo Restaurants do just that, offering authentic cuisine from around the World. There’s plenty of choice of dishes and a wide variety of flavors to get those taste buds in full flow!

There’s good news for NHS Staff also as Cosmo have been in touch to let us know that they will offer a discount of 10% to NHS staff who show their valid ID upon arrival. The discount applies to groups of a maximum of 5 people.

O2 – 25% off any airtime plan

Buying a mobile phone can be something of a minefield at the moment with so many different models of phone, operating system, contracts etc, but there’s good news for NHS staff to get 25% off airtime plan contracts simply by signing up to the employee discount scheme, O2 Open.

To find out if you’re eligible for the disount, simply text OPEN, followed by NHS, to 61202 . Then all you need to do is:

• buy a new device on O2 Refresh.
• Choose a Pay Monthly phone, tablet or mobile broadband device from an O2 store or via the O2 online shop
